The penthouse. The sunset from Twin Peaks. The rooftop at a friend’s apartment. The sheer awe that comes from the views of any heightened spot feels the same as the buzz from the fluorescents in a silent room. There’s a reason why people say they “feel on top of the world!” when it comes to heights; not just in a literal sense, but rather the euphoric feeling comes from looking at all the surroundings all at once.
But what if there’s a complete 180, if the perspective changes to that of an ant? Deep on the concrete ground, crawling around, and always looking up. What does it mean to always have to look up at the world, instead of looking around?
Megan Posas explores these themes in her exhibition Rooftops and Forest Floors, through the use of oil paints. Her upbringing in the Midwest, her life in San Francisco, and her passion to travel and explore many lifestyles influence her deep dissections into contrasting viewpoints.
